Reflections on Ten Years in Business
Heartell turns ten this week (August 14, 2014 is the day I filed my paperwork to form an LLC in New York State), so I thought I would share a practice my team and I have adopted for making sense of our experience and planning for the future. At our biannual retreats, we set aside time to look back at our achievements and disappointments, to look inward to see what we can learn from them and make sure our actions are aligned with our values, and look forward in order to create a vision for the future that we can work towards.
9 Life Lessons from 9 Years of Heartell Press
The working title of this post was “Nine tips from nine years in business,” but what I want to offer you today isn’t business advice. Today, I want to share with you what working with you, the Heartell community, has taught me—lessons that extend beyond the realm of business. These insights have shaped me as a spouse, parent, friend, sibling and daughter, just as much as they have influenced me as an artist, business owner, and employer.
Heartell staff recipe share: Logan's Street Corn Dip
This summer, the Heartell staff is sharing some of our treasured recipes with you! Lucky for us, our Operations Manager Kristin King's partner Logan is handy with a grill. They are sharing Logan's recipe for Mexican Street Corn Dip which was a huge hit at our Heartell barbeque at Syracuse Lake last summer. Cheers to good times and great company – enjoy!
Behind the Scenes: Drawing Inspiration from Botanic Gardens for our New Collection of Letterpress Greeting Cards
Last week we released our brand new collection of letterpress greeting cards, and today we are going behind the scenes and sharing the first installment in a series all about the inspiration behind the new designs.
Botanic gardens are some of my favorite places to be and a visit to a new one (or an old favorite!) never fails to inspire new designs.
End-of-Summer Reflections in the Soul-Restoring Indiana Garden that Inspired One of Heartell's Most Popular Woodblock Printed Designs
Seeing what the season has brought out into the light or made to wither and fall back again, I feel so comforted by the constancy woven through all the change. Whatever happens elsewhere, the life teeming in that patch of soil and sun and water is always there, held perfectly in balance, each petal and seed exactly where it needs to be, doing its work as part of the whole. There is something wild about blooming no matter where it happens, an impossible unfurling, defying the forces of weather and decay.
